M.A.R.K 10:14 -- JOEY AND DESTINY LETOURNEAU
'Mentoring At Risk Kids'

"Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God...And He took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them."" (Mark 10:14,16)

M.A.R.K. 10:14 - Vision:
To gather every poor, broken and empty child of Ethiopia, Africa, and beyond into the Father's arms, see them released from bondage, transformed by love, and empowered by the Spirit to be sons and daughters of the Most High God, who live out the great commission of Jesus through an uncompromising love for God and His people.

Mission:
* Acts of Love, Healing & Deliverance -
To walk among the poor & needy the way Jesus walked...Isaiah 61:1-4 - "'The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tiding to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.' And they shall rebuild the old ruins, They shall raise up the former desolations, And they shall repair the ruined cities, The desolations of many generations."

Testimony:
When our family first arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to make our home, it was very important to us not to come and start a ministry or a program, but to come and ask the Lord where He was moving and how we could join Him in His steps. As we inquired of the Lord He challenged us with Isaiah 58:6-14, a passage very similar in nature to Isaiah 61. We felt like God was calling us to an unusual sort of fast. To begin our calling here in Ethiopia we would fast for forty days from doing any kind of organized or programmed ministry. Our only ministry during these 40 days would be to try and walk how Jesus walked and live out the fast of love and mercy described in the verses of Isaiah 58.

As we walked we asked God to show us His people from His perspective. We asked God to teach us His love for each one. We asked God to teach us to hear His voice, to listen to the hearts of the broken, and to show us how to live out the promises of His word in the streets. We asked Jesus to teach us how to join Him in the streets and marketplaces around us that appeared so much like the streets and marketplaces that He lived in. Very simply, we wanted to walk with Jesus, and love like Jesus across the path He had put before us.

* Provision for the Poor -
3 Principles of Provision:
  • Meeting direct physical needs - food, shelter, clothing, blankets, education, hospital visits, etc.
  • Empowerment through small business opportunities - shoe shinekits, personally developed trades, product to sell, etc.
  • Manna lifestyle of trust & faith - Based on God as our daily Provider in Exodus 16

Testimony:
Right now, there are many "street-mothers" begging for money in one particular area. Their young children living on the stereets with them are learning to take on the same oppression that their mom's are walking in. We can try and tell them how to get out, and we can give them money, but neither are long term fixes. Instead, Alex has been meeting with the mom's asking what their need is. They didn't just ask for money, they wanted jobs! We prayed, then we presented them with the possibility of having baskets of different products to begin their own businesses on the streets. They loved this idea! However, we didn't have the money and neither did they. We knew God was working and wanted us to trust Him, so Alex asked them to pray and to trust God along with us to be our Provider. Some of these "street mothers" were of different religious background, but all committed to trust God for the answer. The best part, after six weeks of praying and trusting God with us, God provided enough provision for these mothers to exit their oppression and start a new path with these jobs. We didn't provide for them, God did! All we did was trust God alongside them. Those who are oppressed by the world need more than to just hear about the way out, they need to be shown how to trust the living God.

* Spirit of Adoption -
Romans 8:14-15 - Evangelism, Discipleship, Empowerment
"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, 'Abba, Father.'"
  • Sons & daughters are adopted by their Heavenly Father through the blood of Jesus, and brought into His intimate embrace.
  • Sons & daughters of God are taken through life on life discipleship to love God with all their heart & love their neighbors as themselves.
  • Sons & daughters are empowered to arise, shine & multiply what God has given them to others around them.

Testimony:
The following was written by an 11 year old girl who was an orphan. She has experienced a lot of pain and difficulty, but has found her spiritual adoption in the Lord. As she came closer to the Lord, she began reaching out and praying for other kids on the streets who were growing up like she did. This is a quote from a letter she wrote to other kids in need... "Lord, please help them to come to you and bless them and help them to know that You are the Father of all the people. Help them to know you died for our sins. We know where you have taken us from, so help them to know you today, bless you Lord. Help them to know you died for our sin, you are the only Good Shepherd. Please teach them Your way Lord Jesus. I believe You that You can change them and help them to come to You. Jesus, thank You. Lord Jesus, I beg You to help them be humble for You. God, I know that if they believe you that you will guide them through every circumstance. Help them to depend on you God. We believe in them, and God we believe that you want to change their lives in order to use them to help others know you too."" Many others in the same circumstances as this young daughter of God have now come to know Jesus as their Savior through her testimony.

Please join us to seek and trust the Lord for a generation of poor, broken and empty children from Ethiopia, Africa and beyond brought into the Father's arms, released from bondage, transformed by love, and empowered by the Spirit to be sons and daughters of the Most High God, who live out the great commission of Jesus through an uncompromising love for God and His people. Thank you!
